Hello! I’m Casey!
My family of 7 live out in the country in an old farmhouse built in the 1880s. My husband and I always had a dream that we would either build an energy efficient home or live in an old fixer upper farmhouse with lots of charm. As you have guessed by my blog we picked the old farmhouse adventure!
We bought this old farmhouse in November of 2014 after our 4th child was born. We rolled up our sleeves and got to work with every spare amount of time fixing up this old farmhouse and preparing our move while still living in our temporary house. After 3 hard months of long hours on both our parts, me with raising 4 young kids, ages 6 and under, and my husband working a full time job, we finally pulled the plug and moved into our farmhouse. This was no easy switch as we called it; we were “glorify camping” in our new but very old home. The upstairs had not been touched in many years, possibly a decade or two. There was one functional bathroom in the newest addition to the house off of the master bedroom. Before we moved into our farmhouse we poured a ton of time and elbow grease restoring the original hardwood floors in all of the main floor except the newest addition which was the master suit. We also painted all of the first floor walls and ceilings except for the foyer and kitchen. We picked just about the worst day to move. It was Valentine’s Day 2015 just two days after we found out we were expecting our 5th child. It was bitterly cold and very windy. My Dad, husband and I spent the entire day moving everything that we could, especially anything too big for our minivan. Everything was placed either in the kitchen, great room, master suit or detached garage. In the master suit we did not have our flooring down yet so everything was placed on the plywood floors. Our queen size mattress sat in the center of the room with all of our dressers lining the walls around the bed. Our three older kids had mattresses in our giant master suite closet that we just built. Over many months we spent every extra minute doing something to improve our new home to make it more livable transforming our home to what it is today. Although we are not done and probably never will be as we always come up with new ideas, we hope you join us on our farmhouse adventure learning along with us and maybe have some inspiration of your own!
